Excalibur Award Winners

Meira Rosenberg Is Excalibur Award Winner

Tennessee Mountain Writers is pleased to announce that Meira Rosenberg of Stamford, CT, is the winner of its Excalibur Award for her novel manuscript Indiana Bamboo. She receives a $500 cash award and publication by Tellico Books, an imprint of Iris Press.

The Excalibur Award was a one-time award to be given to a first-time novelist for a full-length juvenile or young adult novel manuscript of publishable quality.

Rosenberg began Indiana Bamboo while completing her Master of Fine Arts in creative writing at Manhattanville College, where it grew from her memories and imaginings of the small town where she was raised in Indiana. She has published personal essays in the past, but children’s literature is her passion.

While she spends most of her time writing and as a writing instructor, she is a lawyer and a former literary co-executor for the Lorraine Hansberry (A Raisin in the Sun) trust. She and her husband have three children who are now young adults, but while they were growing up, they had almost as many pets as her character Indiana Bamboo does, from dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, goldfish and hermit crabs, to the occasional garter snakes who were banished to a terrarium on the front porch.

Rosenberg lives in Connecticut and is currently working on another adventure for Indiana Bamboo.
